APWB annual Career Counselling is organised by the Association of Professional Women Banker to cater for the youths in Secondary Schools.
The Association of Professional Women Bankers (APWB) kick started its 2017 Annual Senior Secondary Schools Career Counseling at Ikorodu on Thursday 19, January 2017.
This year’s theme tagged ”GUIDELINES AND TIPS TO ADOPT IN CHOOSING A CAREER PATH” also included a pep talk on “ Developing a savings Culture”

The program attracted students from over thirty Private and Public Secondary Schools drawn from Ikorodu Local Government. Furthermore students were accompanied by their various Counselors and Teachers.
The Teachers Resource Centre (TRC) Hall, Owutu was packed full with about four hundred students.
Conspicuous at the venue were members of Sterling Bank who happens to be co-sponsor of the event. Dignitaries from the financial sector including female Fellows and Associates of CIBN were also present.
APWB ANNUAL CAREER COUNSELLING FOR 2017: Introduction and Opening
The chairperson of the Association Mrs Toyin Ojo in her opening address enlightened the students on the Association’s mission. Specifically she said the Association aims to better the lives of Women and Children. The Association strives to achieve this by ensuring the women and children get access to valuable information and guidance. Hence this is done by promoting unity, friendliness and building bridges to cover up any area of deficiency. Furthermore she said this is one reason the Career Counseling has remained a very dear project to the Association.
Although the Association has been reaching out to schools within and outside Lagos this is however their first time at Ikorodu.
Consequently she then advised students to be focused and avoid any form of distraction in their academic pursuit.
APWB ANNUAL CAREER COUNSELLING 2017 Keynote Address and Pep Talk
A Senior official at Sterling Bank Mrs Oluyomi Dada presented the keynote address – “Guidelines and Tips to adopt in Choosing A Career Path”
She connected well with the students as her academic journey began from one of the Secondary schools in Ikorodu. For this reason the students listened with rapt attention and eagerly asked question on areas agitating their minds.
She reminded them that success requires hard work and as such they should do their best and not cut corners. Notwithstanding their circumstances she told the students they have a role to play in determining where they want to be in life.
Another speaker and role model presented by Sterling Bank educated the students on the need to develop a savings culture. She went further to give them tips on how they could start small and answered questions asked by the excited students.
The interactive section was engaging as the students wanted to know more about banking and other professions.
CLOSING
In closing the students were entertained and presented with token gifts and certificate of attendance.
The feedback from the students was that of gratitude as they openly commended the Association’s effort. Also they claimed to be better informed as it relates to career choice and were particularly happy that practicing professionals were on hand to guide them. At the end of the program the students all left the venue satisfied and equipped to pick their Career wisely.
The next Career Counselling by the Association will be held at Lagos Island Local Government and Schools from that environs will be in attendance.
