  INTRODUCTION 

Psalms 71 is a beautiful prayer Psalms found in the Bible and written by King David; a man after God’s own heart. The prayers are still very relevant to us today. Prayer is our means of communing with God. Sometimes when we are on our knees we run short of what to tell our Father in heaven. This should not be so if we make it an habit to read the Bible and apply them to our prayer life.

 THE BIBLE AND ITS CONTENT 

The Bible is a valuable companion as we seek to strengthen our relationship with God.  I enjoy praying Psalms 71 especially on days that I am fasting and need to pray for a minimum of one hour. The Psalms consist of 24 verses. I have broken them into smaller segments. I have penned down prayer tips I found valuable for each segment. My prayer consists of Bible reading, singing and presenting my petitions. This post is to get you started but the more you rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance the more you will be inspired to create your own points. I encourage you to open your Bible as you read this post and pray along.

 

 PSALM 71:5 -8 WORSHIP GOD FOR HIS GREATNESS

O Lord, you alone are my hope. I’ve trusted you, O Lord, from childhood.  Yes, you have been with me from birth; from my mother’s womb you have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising you! My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection.  That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long.

 Prayer Points 

  • Give God quality worship for whom He is. For His goodness over you from the womb to date.

  • Worship Him for making you to be a wonder.
  • For His strong arm of protection over you and all that is yours give Him worship.
  • Thank Him on behalf of your House of worship, the Ministers, workers and all the members.
  • Appreciate Him for the success of all your Church programs and the positive impact they had on countless lives.
  • Praise Him for He deserves all the praise you can give Him.

PSALMS 71 Prayer is key

 PSALMS 71: 17-18 THANK GOD FOR HIS MIGHTY WORKS

O God, You have taught me from my youth, and hitherto have I declared Your wondrous works. Yes, even when I am old and gray-headed, O God, forsake me not, [but keep me alive] until I have declared Your mighty strength to [this] generation, and Your might and power to all that are to come.

Song: You are Mighty and Holy.

 Prayer Tips  
  • Acknowledge God’s goodness for the salvation of your soul and thank Him.
  • Express your gratitude to Him for keeping you in the race without allowing you to lose focus.
  • Thank God for the power of the Holy Spirit that has enabled you to proclaim the gospel to others.
  •  Pray that He establish you firmly in the spiritual journey, He should keep you from backsliding as you age each day.
  • Request that He saturate you with the Holy Spirit power.

Song: Father send down power in my spirit.

  • Pray that the power of the Holy Spirit will help you overcome every temptation and obstacles on you way in the Kingdom race.

 VERSE 19-20 RESTORE ME LORD 

PSALMS 71: 19 -20 (CEV)
 Your deeds of kindness
are known in the heavens. No one is like you! You made me suffer a lot, but you will bring me back from this deep pit and give me new life.

 Prayers 

  1. Merciful God- by mercy forgive my sins.
  2.  I confess all my known sins and plead that the blood of Jesus cleanses me and make me whole again.
  3. Let Your mercy prevail over the judgment I deserve for my failings.
  4. Restore my strength and do not deliver me to the grave in your anger.
  5. Place the seal of life upon me.
  6. Restore me to the position of honor that sin displaced me from.

 PSALMS 71:3 BE MY REFUGE OH GOD

Be my secure shelter and a strong fortress to protect me; you are my refuge and defense.

 Prayers 

  • You hold the key to my life. Save me from destruction.
  • Deliver me from every evil programmed into my future.
  • Lord be a fortress and secure shelter for me and my family.

 PSALMS 71:1-2 I TRUST YOU LORD SAVE ME FROM DISGRACE

In You, O Lord, I put my trust; Let me never be put to shame. Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; Incline Your ear to me, and save me.
 Petition  
  • Lord protect me from actions that could bring shame to my life, family, career, business and the Church.
  • You are Holy Lord, make a way of escape for me and all that belongs to me from every satanic trap.
  • My life is fully yielded to You Lord. In Your mercy be attentive to my prayer. Do not allow me to suffer any defeat in the hand of the enemy.
  • Help me speedily so that the enemy will not mock and say where is “My God”

 PSALMS 71: 4 DELIVER ME SPEEDILY FROM CRUEL OPPRESSORS

My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of cruel oppressors.

 Prayer Points 

  1. Lord let every plan of the wicked to terminate my life and cut off my hope be destroyed.
  2. Father frustrate the plans of ruthless and cruel oppressors against me, family, destiny, career, business and every other thing of importance to me.
  3.  Deliver me, my destiny, my glory, my children, my finances from cruel oppressors and powers holding us captive.

 PSALMS 71: 9 MY GOD MY STRENGTH UPHOLD ME

Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone.

Song: Draw me nearer precious Lord.

  1. My God and Father do not cast me away when I am old; or forsake me when my strength is gone.
  2. Father Lord, be my strength in my moment of weakness.
  3. Do not let me become a used and discarded vessel in your hand, Lord.
  4. In circumstances where my faith is challenged and I become weak, please be my strength.
  5.  When I am physically weak and unable to satisfy you, please do not cast me away.

 PSALMS 71: 10-12 LORD ARISE BY FIRE FOR MY SALVATION

For my enemies talk about me; those waiting for a chance to kill me plot my demise. They say, “God has abandoned him. Run and seize him, for there is no one who will rescue him!”  O God, do not remain far away from me! My God, hurry and help me!

 Petitions 

  • Scatter by fire every evil gathering of conspirators against my life.
  • Arise by fire and let the enemy know I am not alone. Let them know I am still precious to you.
  • Cover my nakedness. Do not let me be exposed to the enemy’s arrow.
  • Build an hedge of fire to clothe and cover me.
  • Do not be far from me. Let your seal be on me, my family and all that is important to me.

 PSALMS 71: 13 SILENCE MY ACCUSERS

Embarrass and destroy all who want me dead; disgrace and confuse all who want to hurt me.

 Prayer Tips 

  • Silence the voice of every accuser against me and my household.
  • Let everyone seeking for my  disgrace be humiliated and embarrassed.
  • Cut down the power of every adversary against my life, family and loved ones.
  • Destroy totally every plan of my attackers by fire.

 PSALMS 71: 21 INCREASE MY HONOR LORD AND GIVE ME ALL ROUND COMFORT

You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again.

  1. For every pain I have suffered in sickness, financial losses, disappointments, destruction, afflictions and more, Lord turn around and comfort me.
  2. Give me visible greatness that will comfort and compensate for my past pains.
  3.  Open visible doors of greatness and dry all my tears over past losses, setbacks and failures.
  4.  Let my spiritual eyes be opened to see the path you want me to tread to get to my place of greatness.
  5. Restore me to greater honor for the years ahead.
  6. Clothe me with all round honor. Honor in my spiritual life, family, career, ministry, business

 PSALMS 71: 14 -16 GIVE ME REASONS FOR THANKSGIVING

But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day,
for their number is past my knowledge. With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.

 Prayer Points 

  • Lord let the days ahead be days of endless thanksgiving by reason of Your goodness to me.
  • Give me voice to proclaim what you have done for me to others with boldness.
  • Let my testimony draw converts to your Kingdom.
  • May the challenges of life not swallow your praise from me.

 PSALMS 71: 22-24 THANKSGIVING FOR ANSWERED PRAYERS

I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you — I, whom you have redeemed. My tongue will tell of your righteous acts all day long, for those who wanted to harm me have been put to shame and confusion.

 Prayer Tips 

  • Give God thanks for the privilege of presenting your petitions to Him.
  • Thank Him by faith for answered prayers, holding on to His word that says when we pray to Him He answers us.
  • Appreciate God for your life and the new position of honor He has earmarked for you.
  • Thank Him for the results of your prayers which will begin to manifest from now on.
  • Give Him thanks for the renewed strength He has given you.

  1. The Lord placed psalms 71 in my heart for a couple of weeks. I would daily say Lord cover me and my family under psalms 71, without reading. Then the Lord summoned me to read psalms 71. It’s so profound to me especially at this stage in my life. I came across your post and it has taught me in details the meaning of psalms 71.
