day 10 NOVEMBER
Those who rush to other gods bring many troubles on themselves. I will not take part in their sacrifices; I will not worship their gods.
God detests idol worship. He sends strong warnings to His children to desist from worshiping same.
God said You shall not make for yourself an idol of any kind, or an image of anything in the heavens above, on the earth beneath, or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God.
Despite these warnings and grave consequences for disobedience children of God today are still deeply involved in idol worship.
Idol worship has been in existence for ages and it continues to gain popularity even among God’s children because satan keeps updating the packaging to make it attractive and desirable.

Often time when idols are mentioned we think of carvings or those physical things we can see; but worship of idols goes beyond the things we see physically to include what we give prominence in our heart more than God.
Because people are seeking for excitement and something new they get deceived to exchange the truth of God they know for a lie, and in replacement they now worship and serve the creature rather than the Creator, who is Almighty God forever.
If God were to beam His searchlight upon your heart what will it reveal?
What you harbor in your heart is very important: we should not even mention the names of any idol or give thoughts to them in our hearts. You may be going to the Church regularly but yet your heart can be far from God because you have given prominence to other things that excludes God.
“You cannot know the state of your heart except the Holy Spirit reveals it to you.”

Let this be your prayer “Search me O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me: cleanse it by mercy and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Jesus declared, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind.”
If we love God with all our heart there should be no room for anything that will be more important than God to us.
Your thoughts should always be focused on God and He should be at the centre of everything you think and do.
When you begin to alter your belief to accommodate modern day ideas that ascribe glory for what you are to other things different from the Almighty God you are in danger of incurring His wrath.
We CAN get God angry or provoke His jealousy with the idols in our hearts
Some of these idols are things we crave for and worship: this can be money, marriage, Prophets of God, career and others which only the Spirit of God can reveal to us. The Bible says we should put to death therefore what is earthly in us: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
May God help us not to fill our heart with worthless things that will affect our relationship and standing with God.
PSALMS 16:4
But those who turn to idols will have much pain. I will not offer blood to those idols or even speak their names. Psalms 16:4 (NCV)

Our appetites and insatiable cravings if not controlled can expose us to the dangers of worshiping false gods. Apostle Paul noted that many Christians live as enemies of the cross of Christ because their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame.
When our mind is set on earthly things it can hinder our prayers and lead to destruction.
God said to Ezekiel “Son of man, these leaders have set up idols in their hearts. They have embraced things that will make them fall into sin. Why should I listen to their requests?
If you want God to listen to you then you must not keep any idol in your heart. One who is in Christ should be heavenly focused for our citizenship is in heaven so your mind should be set on God and on heavenly things.

Some children of God have given up worship of God in exchange for worship of lesser gods because they could not control their appetite or endure a little hunger. May that not be our lot in life.
The people of Tyre and Sidon depended on King Herod’s country for supply of food but King Herod quarreled with them and they were exposed to hunger.
Because they were not ready to go through the pain of hunger they sought an audience with Herod to negotiate peace with him.
On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people.
They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.
We should strongly reject every attempt by people to turn us to their idol. All glory should go to God who used us to meet their needs either spiritually or financially or otherwise.
The people of Tyre and Sidon provoked God to jealousy because they made Herod their object of worship.
Herod incurred the wrath of God because he was glorying in what belongs to God. He did not correct the people.

The gains from idol worship if any are temporary but the pains they create in your life is eternal if you do not repent.
Idols will only give you superficial satisfaction because what they offer is limited. They cannot create life but will only give an altered version of what God already created to deceive you.
When God used the rod of Moses in Egypt to wrought miracles; Pharaoh’s magicians were able to counterfeit three out of the ten miracles because they wanted to discredit the power of God.
They succeeded for a short time because God allowed them however in the end they were all destroyed by God.
Don’t allow satan deceive you for He cannot save any one from the wrath of God. Only Jesus can save because His blood on the cross of Calvary provided the needed atonement for our sins.
God is ready to forgive you if you ask Him with a heart of repentance.
Allow Him to free you from all the worldly things that has occupied your heart.
He said I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean.
Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols.
May we be free from the attraction and attachment to idols in Jesus Name (Amen)
PRAYER PETITIONS
1) I renounce every association I have with idols. Lord I am sorry for filling my heart with these idols; please forgive me and sprinkle Your living water on me and make me clean.
2) Lord lay Your axe to the root cause of my problem. Pull down and destroy every altar of idols in my life.
3) Preserve me Lord don’t let me take the name of any idols or offer their sacrifice of blood.
PRAY FERVENTLY
4) Save me from hastening after another god. Don’t let me be associated with people that worship idols. Disconnect me from their stronghold.
5) Please be my portion and inheritance forever O Lord.
6) Seal me with the blood of Jesus and let me enjoy fullness of joy in your presence forever.
LORD May I receive your answer to my prayers in Jesus Name (amen)
