BIBLE TEXT: PSALMS 45: 7 (NKJV)

You love righteousness and hate wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.

Anointing oil has a special place in the Bible starting from the Old Testament period. God gave directives for the first preparation. The original ingredients were listed by God and He gave specific instructions regarding its usage.  It is obvious why God showed so much interest in it being according to His desired standard. Anointing oil is used as a symbol of God’s seal to anoint those He wants to give power. It is also used for God’s children who are set apart for special assignment.

As a result when God releases His power on the oil it becomes an extraordinary oil carrying the power of God. For this reason whoever gets anointed by the oil is transformed to become another person. They begin to operate and manifest with supernatural power of God.

When Saul the King was anointed people were asking if Saul was also among the Prophets because they saw the transformation in him. When David received it he became a man of power that was attractive to God and loved by men.

You can also experience this change when you get the anointing.

The anointing oil is called differently depending on what the power God has released into it is meant to accomplish. Notwithstanding the reference to it; the power it symbolizes is the same “Holy Spirit” that is God’s power operating through the anointing.

Today we are focusing on the “Oil of Gladness”

The oil of gladness is unique because we read the full operation of it in the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus got to a height other prophets that came before Him could never attained because of the anointing. Despite the pain He had to undergo He was not overcome by sorrow. He operated in joy and gave joy to everyone that had an encounter with Him. Jesus was who the prophets foretold He will be.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,  to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

When you have the oil of gladness the work you do through the power of the Holy Spirit will announce your identity to the world the same way Jesus was announced. At the time John the Baptist got depressed and confused He sent to Jesus to reconfirm if Jesus was the expected Messiah. Jesus had no reason to respond but rather He pointed them to see His works.  A way of telling the messengers that His works are enough testimony of the Holy Spirit power operating through Him.

Satan may attempt to limit the operation of the power of the Holy Spirit by causing physical affliction. But his effort cannot limit or stop the power of God. He afflicted Job and also imprisoned John the Baptist but he could not stop the flow of harvest from the oil of gladness.

Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

Jesus pointed representatives of John to His work for John to know that the same power that brought the dead back to life through the ministration of Jesus can get John out of prison if God so desires. However if God had done this John could not have fulfilled his God ordained purpose and his life would have been a waste. Our Lord Jesus fulfilled His own purpose too by enduring the death of the cross but thereafter He was glorified.

The oil of gladness is a symbol of God’s power through the Holy Spirit in the life of His children. You cannot experience total peace or operate in the power of God if you lack the oil of gladness. God anoints His children with it but you must hunger for it. When God anoints you with the oil of gladness you will be equipped to operate extraordinarily in time of ease or difficulty.

Today God will release on you that oil of gladness if you ask in faith. However there are processes you must go through for God to release this oil of gladness on you.

The oil of gladness is a free gift but you must activate it with the right key. To ascertain if you are qualified to receive God’s oil of gladness you need to know the requirement. In the Bible the key to unlock it is revealed in the Bible but summarized in Psalms 45 where our text is picked from. The first prerequisite is that you must be a child of God.

God demands righteousness which is possible when you have accepted Christ and the Holy Spirit is in you. The Holy Spirit will reveal what the righteous demands of God are and He will help you to live daily in righteousness.

God demands that you hate iniquities. God cannot fellowship with anyone that is defiled by sin. It is not acceptable that you are righteous, living holy but still supporting others living in iniquity and not hating their wickedness. God is very clear you must hate iniquity and whatever it represents. You must not be associated with it.

Hebrews 1:9 (AMP) You have loved righteousness [integrity, virtue, uprightness in purpose] and have hated lawlessness [injustice, sin]. Therefore God, Your God, Has anointed You With the oil of gladness above Your companions.”

Ponder in your heart are you qualified? If you have a doubt God is still in the business of changing hearts. You must be repentant, ready to allow Christ enter into your life and make you whole.

To get anointed with the oil of gladness you must desire it, be repentant and ask God for it through prayers.  Jesus said  in  Matthew 7:7 (NIV)

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

When you ask God will answer for in  Psalms 147:3 (AMP)

He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow].

God answered the Psalmist and he testified.

Psalms 30:10 -11 (NKJV)  10. Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper!” 11. You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.

God dries our tears and turns our mourning to joy when we repent.

  1. Lord I repent and confess my sins please forgive me and consecrate me.
  2. Release on me the oil of gladness.
  3. I stand on the word of God and declare that by your mercy this new anointing in my life will provoke harvest of laughter in my life in Jesus Name.
  4. May my garment of mourning be replaced with the garment of joy in Jesus Name.
  5. Every unseen battle that may want to hinder the operation of the oil of gladness in my life may they be consumed by the power and fire of the Holy Spirit.
  6. May I begin to experience peace in Jesus name.

The oil of gladness gives peace to the one that is anointed. When God sets you apart by anointing you with the oil of gladness you become His responsibility. He cherishes you as His possession and all your battles, needs and affliction becomes God’s own. You don’t need to be bothered for God will ensure victory.  God will Himself distress, disrupt and terrify the powers of satan and it’s agents sent to work against you.

Psalms 2: 2-5a (NIV) 2. The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, 3. “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” 4. The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. 5a. He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath.

To reap the fruits in the oil you must recognize who you are and understand why God has anointed you with the oil of gladness. Your identity as a child of God must be clear and not doubtful for God wants you to have victory over sin. He wants us to record success as we do the work He has commissioned us to do.

1) When anointed you become set apart for God.

But you are the chosen race, the King’s priests, the holy nation, God’s own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God, who called you out of darkness into his own marvelous light.

2) Your heart becomes softened just as He promised

EZEKIEL 36:26 (GNT)

I will give you a new heart and a new mind. I will take away your stubborn heart of stone and give you an obedient heart.

3) By the anointing you become promoted beyond the level someone without the oil can ever attain. As an anointed king and priest of God our reign has no end for we will reign with Christ forever.

4) We experience God’s joy in its fullness. This joy is indescribable. For even where what we are seeing around us doesn’t encourage gladness, our joy cannot diminish.

JOHN 2:20 (AMP)

But you have an anointing from the Holy One [you have been set apart, specially gifted and prepared by the Holy Spirit], and all of you know [the truth because He teaches us, illuminates our minds, and guards us from error].

5) The anointing oil of gladness releases power into us and we are ready for new responsibilities. God equips and armed us for battle.

6) We are perfumed in pleasant aroma that is attractive to God. You enter into God’s higher calling because God delights in you.

2 CORINTHIANS 2: 15-16 (AMP)

15. For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which ascends] to God, [discernible both] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; 16. to the latter one an aroma from death to death [a fatal, offensive odor], but to the other an aroma from life to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is adequate and sufficiently qualified for these things?

7) The power in the anointing oil of gladness brings us healing and freedom from every form of affliction and imprisonment.

When God anoints you with the oil of gladness the work you do in His power will give others joy.

You remain fresh, fat and flourishing- The observation of the Psalmist will come to life in you.

Psalms 92:14 (NKJV)They shall still bear fruit in old age;  They shall be fresh and flourishing.

Some versions use words like green, healthy, full of sap, fruitful and strong. It is a visible and quantifiable reward.

You cannot hear of the oil of gladness and not request for it.

Your life must experience that joy which is only possible when God anoints you by His Spirit.

Do you desire the anointing oil of gladness?

You must be a child of God to get the oil of gladness.

Do you want to know how you can become one?

God has made it very easy. It is the work of grace but you must accept this grace by being repentant. Repentance means being truly sorry for your sins and confessing them. Ask God to forgive you and ask that the blood of His son Jesus Christ washes away your sins.

When you open the door of your heart Jesus will come in and give you a new life. You are now qualified to enjoy all the benefits that are meant for the children of God.

  1. You have enlightened me on the oil of gladness but how about the products that I saw on this website can you sell them online? I would like to buy some sweet smelling aromatherapy oils and perfume as displayed.

    • God bless you. The product is for illustration purpose only. You can always make your own oil of gladness. The ingredients are simple – Salvation through Jesus Christ, faith in the wonder working power of God, a bottle of oil of your choice and you pray over it and believe that God has answered your prayer through Jesus Christ and better still you can give your Pastor to pray with you. It is your prayer that makes the oil special because you prayed for the Holy Spirit power to rest upon it. It does not replace the unseen Holy Spirit but we see the manifestation of His work in our lives.
